This practice area includes any case where a person has been wrongly imprisoned. It includes criminal appeals, post conviction proceedings, and federal writs of habeas corpus.
Mr. Harper began focusing his practice in this area of law after his successful result in his case involving the Cook County Jail. A description of that case appears in this website under the section: Judicial Award for Excellence. After winning that case, he began receiving correspondence from other incarcerated inmates who had heard about his work. Some of them wrote surprisingly convincing letters, complaining that they were innocent. The letters rekindled that same desire for justice that originally motivated him to serve as a prosecutor in New York City. He began carefully screening all of the letters he received, looking for prisoners who had been convicted unjustly, and then giving them the same high level of representation that corporate clients receive from large law firms in business litigation.
